Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, six-time NBA champion and Muslim, put it best: when KKK members burn crosses in black people’s yards, Christians do not have to come out condemning them because most people are intelligent enough to know they do not represent mainstream Christianity. By the same logic, ISIS, which represents 0.019 percent of the world’s 1.8 billion Muslims, should not be used to condemn an entire faith. At its peak in the 1920s, the KKK had 5 million members out of 106 million Americans, a far larger percentage than ISIS has ever represented among Muslims.
