Why You Will Love Islam

From the time of the earliest prophets to the present day, Islam and its followers have always had critics. But why? This powerful spoken-word reflection addresses every common objection to Islam head-on, from the way Muslims look and dress to the food they eat and the language they speak, turning each criticism into an invitation to look deeper and discover the truth behind the world’s most misunderstood way of life.

Answering Every Objection

Is it the beard? Key men throughout history wore beards, from Abraham to Abraham Lincoln. Is it the hijab? Mary, the mother of Jesus, wore one too. Is it how Muslims treat women? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said the best of men in character is the best to his wife, and he was the best to his. Is it the food? Halal simply means the animal is treated with the utmost mercy from the farm to the fork. Is it the numbers? Perhaps that is because Muhammad (peace be upon him) was ranked as the most influential person in all of human history.

If you believed you had the most beautiful gift in the world, wouldn’t you want to share it with everyone? But even still, I couldn’t convert anyone even if I tried. I have no power. Allah has all the power. The Quran says: there is no compulsion in religion.

The Real Invitation

  • Islam teaches that injustice must be challenged: “Whenever you see a wrong, try to change it. If you cannot, then speak against it. If you still cannot, then at least hate it in your heart”
  • Muslims love the Prophet Muhammad more than their own selves, and the more you learn about him, the more you love him
  • Islam was not sent to perfect people; it was sent to perfect people. Islam is perfect, Muhammad was perfect, but Muslims are not
  • The invitation is to discover Islam from its real sources, not from “he said, she said” or media portrayals

Islam was sent to perfect people, not to a bunch of perfect people. Say: Islam is perfect. Muhammad, peace be upon him, was perfect. But Muslims are not. So I invite you to his way, to the way of Jesus, Moses, and Abraham. Less hating, more educating. Start reading today.

Every prophet faced opposition. Jesus was mocked and driven out. Muhammad (peace be upon him) was called a madman. As Imam al-Shafi’i said: “He who thinks he is free from the criticism of people is a madman, for the Lord of the worlds Himself has been wrongfully criticized.” The haters will always be there, but the truth endures. The only question is whether you will take the time to discover it for yourself or let others define it for you.
