Shadid Muhammad grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, without a religious foundation and spent 20 years cursing God, blaming Him for every hardship, and walking around with a chip on his shoulder. His transformation from a man who literally hated God to someone who found deep love and purpose through Islam is a testament to the power of divine guidance and the mercy of the Creator who never gives up on His creation.
From Cursing God to Submitting to Him
Born to non-practicing Christian parents, Shadid grew up feeling that the world owed him something. Without understanding religion or having any spiritual foundation, he interpreted every difficulty as evidence that God was against him. He would look up at the sky and say “I hate you.” This destructive attitude, common among youth who grow up without purpose, made him careless about his own life and the lives of others. It was not until he encountered Islam at age 20 that everything changed.
“I literally used to curse God. I would look up at the heavens and say I hate you. Mind you, you’re talking about a child that didn’t understand life, didn’t understand God, didn’t have a religious foundation. There are tons of non-Muslims out there today that can relate.”
The Quran: A Book That Transforms Lives
Shadid’s encounter with the Quran was the turning point. He found in it answers to every question that had tormented him, explanations for the suffering he had experienced, and a direct connection to the Creator he had spent years hating. He now recommends that every human being pick up the Quran and read it, emphasizing that no book ever killed anyone and that sincere study of this scripture leads over 1.5 billion people to the same conclusion: it is indeed from the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
“Pick up this Quran. It’s the only book in the world that’s been memorized by millions. It’s a living miracle. Addresses you, the human being. Read it and put it to the test.”
