Turkey-Syria Earthquake | Response to the Mocking | Signs of Judgement Day (Sh.Uthman & Dr.Karim )

The devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria claimed over 20,000 lives and affected more than 100,000 people, leaving entire communities buried under rubble. In this powerful episode of The Deen Show, Shaykh Uthman and Dr. Karim address the tragedy head-on, responding to those who shamelessly mocked the victims and connecting the disaster to profound prophetic teachings about faith, patience, and the signs of Judgement Day in Islam.

The Disgraceful Mockery and the Double Standard

While families were still pulling their loved ones from the wreckage, certain media outlets chose to publish cartoons mocking the dead. Shaykh Uthman and Dr. Karim exposed the blatant hypocrisy at play: hate speech laws protect some communities but not Muslims, flag-burning is criminalized in many nations yet burning the Quran is defended as “free speech,” and questioning certain historical events is illegal while ridiculing the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is celebrated. The speakers called on people of conscience everywhere — Muslim and non-Muslim alike — to stand against this double standard peacefully and with their wallets, refusing to financially support organizations that profit from mocking innocent death.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once stood up for the funeral procession of a Jewish man. When asked why, he simply said, “Is this not a soul?” This is the moral standard Islam sets — respect for every human life, regardless of faith.

Earthquakes as Signs of Judgement Day

  • Prophetic fulfillment: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) foretold that an increase in earthquakes would be among the signs of Judgement Day, and we are witnessing this prophecy unfold year after year.
  • Three major signs: Out of the ten major signs of the Day of Judgement, three are massive earthquakes — one in the East, one in the West, and one in the Arabian Peninsula.
  • A reminder, not a punishment of annihilation: The Prophet (peace be upon him) sought refuge with Allah that the entire Muslim Ummah would never be wiped out by a collective earthquake. Individual calamities serve as reminders to return to Allah in repentance.
  • Martyrdom for the victims: The Prophet (peace be upon him) identified those who die crushed or drowned as being among the categories of martyrs (shaheed), giving immense hope that the victims of this tragedy are granted the highest ranks in Paradise.

The Islamic Perspective on Suffering and Patience

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I am amazed by the condition of the believer — if something good happens, he praises Allah and Allah increases the good; and if hardship befalls him, he is patient, and Allah forgives his sins and elevates his ranks.” This is the believer’s path: patience in trial, gratitude in ease.

An Invitation to Guidance and Truth

Islam teaches that this life is a temporary test, and every soul will return to its Creator. Children who pass before the age of accountability enter Paradise directly, and every hardship a believer endures — even a moment of sadness — serves to cleanse sins and raise spiritual ranks. Rather than reacting with anger to those who mock, Islam calls upon believers to respond with patience, supplication, and an open invitation to guidance. The speakers concluded with a heartfelt appeal: learn about Islam directly from its sources, read the Quran, and discover the message of One Creator who offers forgiveness to all who sincerely seek it. There are only two destinations in the Hereafter — and the path to Paradise begins with submitting to Allah, following the example of every prophet from Abraham to Moses to Jesus to Muhammad (peace be upon them all).
