Mark always believed in God but hated the idea of confessing his sins to another human being. Growing up more familiar with the Bible than the Quran, he carried a deep discomfort with the Catholic confessional system from the age of eight. When a friend showed him the Quran for the first time, something stirred that he could not ignore. Though it took time, that initial encounter planted a seed that would eventually blossom into a complete acceptance of Islam — the faith where your sins are between you and your Creator alone, with no intermediary required.
Why Confession Never Made Sense
At just eight years old, Mark found it strange that he had to confess his sins to a priest — another human being with his own sins and shortcomings. Islam resolved this discomfort completely: in Islam, repentance is a direct, private conversation between you and Allah. No priest, no confession booth, no intermediary. You turn to the One who created you, sincerely ask for forgiveness, and He forgives. This simple, dignified approach to seeking God’s mercy is one of the most powerful attractions of Islam for people coming from Christian backgrounds.
I thought it was kind of strange that I had to confess my sins when I was eight years old — confess to another person. In Islam, your repentance is directly between you and your Creator. No intermediary needed.
From the Bible to the Quran
- Mark was more familiar with the Bible but found that the Quran answered questions the Bible left open, particularly about God’s nature and the purpose of life
- A friend who had the Quran showed it to him in passing, and though it took time, that encounter changed the trajectory of his life
- He wanted others to experience the same joy he felt upon discovering Islam — the joy of finding the truth after years of searching
- Islam’s direct relationship with God, without saints, priests, or intermediaries, is what draws millions of Christians to the faith every year
When I read the Quran, I would cry literally. The simplicity, the directness, the clarity — it answered everything I had been searching for my entire life.
