From Hollywood to Islam

A former celebrity personal trainer and fitness competitor from Brooklyn shares her extraordinary journey from the glamorous world of Hollywood, Miami, and Las Vegas to finding Islam. As a Latina from a Puerto Rican Catholic family raised in an Italian neighborhood, her path to faith defied every stereotype and cultural expectation, proving that Allah’s guidance reaches whoever He wills, regardless of background.

From Celebrity Trainer to Seeking Something Greater

She trained professional athletes, celebrities, and notable figures, traveled the world, graced magazine covers, and attended every exclusive party from the Hamptons to Hollywood. As a national-level fitness competitor, she was at the peak of physical achievement. Yet despite all of this, something was missing. A fellow competitor, a Lebanese Muslim man, challenged her to reconsider her lifestyle and gave her a copy of the Quran, which she placed on a shelf and did not touch for years.

“There is not any party in the Hamptons or in Vegas or in LA that I hadn’t been to. There wasn’t a magazine I wasn’t in. But at the end of the day, something was missing.”

A Trip to Malaysia and the Road to the Shahada

In 2002, eight months after 9/11, she traveled to Malaysia for work and experienced Ramadan for the first time. The tranquility of the Muslim community left a lasting impression. Years later, after a serious car accident in 2005 that could have taken her life, she began to seriously reflect on her purpose. She eventually took her shahada during Ramadan 2009, learning to pray from sheets of paper and memorizing Al-Fatiha over three weeks. She put on the hijab on January 1, 2010.

“It took me three weeks to memorize Al-Fatiha. It was the most amazing experience. I learned how to pray on the first day of Ramadan 2009.”

  • She now teaches fitness classes called “Fit for Allah” and nutrition lectures for Muslim women, combining her professional expertise with her faith
  • Her biggest struggle as a Latina convert has been finding acceptance in Muslim communities dominated by other cultures, a reminder that the ummah must embrace converts of all backgrounds
  • She emphasizes that Islam is not limited to any ethnicity or culture, and that all Muslims share the same love for Allah and His messengers
  • Her story demonstrates that even the most materially successful lives cannot substitute for the peace and purpose that comes from submitting to the Creator
