While the world was busy with the Harlem Shake trend and other fleeting distractions, The Deen Show addressed the question that matters most: what is the purpose of life? Imam John Yahya, named after the Prophet John the Baptist (Yahya in Arabic), joined host Eddie to explain why money, fame, and status consistently fail to bring happiness and how Islam provides the definitive answer to humanity’s deepest existential question.
Why the Wealthy and Famous Are Still Miserable
Statistics show that actors, athletes, doctors, engineers, and wealthy individuals are often among the most depressed people in society. Despite having everything the world says should make them happy, they find their lives unfulfilling because they have devoted themselves to material things rather than to their Creator. As human beings, we have an innate awareness of right and wrong, morality and purpose, that no amount of money can satisfy. Only a connection with the one who created us can fill that void.
“Money, fame, power, status, the statistics show that the actors, athletes, and wealthy people are often some of the most depressed people. Their life is not fulfilling because they feel devoted to worldly things rather than their Creator.”
The Quran: The Only Revelation Preserved in Its Original Language
Imam Yahya highlighted a unique distinction of the Quran: it is the only divine revelation preserved in the original language in which it was revealed. While other scriptures have been translated, altered, and revised over centuries, the Quran remains in its original Arabic exactly as it was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This preservation is central to understanding why Muslims trust it as the authentic and unchanged word of God.
“The Quran is preserved in the original language it was revealed, which is something that is not the luxury of any other previous revelation.”
- The purpose of life in Islam is to worship the one Creator, do good deeds, and prepare for the Day of Judgment and eternal life in Paradise
- Asking God for guidance is the essential first step that most people have never taken, yet it is the most powerful action a person can perform
- One should pray directly to the Creator, not to any prophet, saint, or created being, and Allah will respond to the sincere seeker
- All the prophets, including Jesus, Moses, Abraham, and Muhammad (peace be upon them), delivered the same message: serve the one God and do good
