Surah Al-Ikhlas (Chapter 112) is one of the shortest yet most powerful chapters of the Quran. In just four verses, it delivers the purest and most complete description of Allah that exists, making it equivalent in reward to one-third of the entire Quran according to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The Essence of Pure Monotheism
Allah reveals: “Say: He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born. And there is none comparable to Him.” These four verses dismantle every false concept of God ever conceived by humanity. There is no partner, no son, no daughter, no family, and nothing in all of existence that resembles the Creator in any way.
“Say: He is God, the One. God, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born. And there is none comparable to Him.” — Quran 112:1-4
A Surah Equal to One-Third of the Quran
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) told his companions: “Is it difficult for any of you to recite one-third of the Quran in a single night?” When they expressed surprise, he explained that Surah Al-Ikhlas is equivalent to one-third of the Quran. This is because the Quran addresses three main themes — stories, rulings, and the nature of Allah — and this surah encapsulates the third in its entirety.
- Surah Al-Ikhlas equals one-third of the Quran in reward
- It is the purest statement of Tawheed (monotheism) in any scripture
- The Prophet recommended reciting it in the morning and evening adhkar
- It refutes every form of polytheism and false theology in just four verses
“Is it difficult for any of you to recite one-third of the Quran in one night? Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas.” — Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
