For millions of Muslims around the world, the Quran is not only a book of guidance but a source of profound spiritual healing. In this powerful episode of The Deen Show, Sheikh Noor Muhammad Ar-Ra’ee and Imam Musa share firsthand accounts of Ruqyah — the practice of Quranic healing rooted in the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) — and how the words of Allah have transformed lives when modern medicine reached its limits.
When Modern Medicine Failed, the Quran Brought Healing
Sheikh Muhammad recounts being called to a hospital at 2 AM to help a Muslim sister who had lost her brother, father, and mother within two months. She was in shock, screaming, and rejecting all help since 10 AM the previous morning. Hospital staff and chaplains had exhausted every method to calm her. When Sheikh Muhammad began reciting from Surah Al-Baqarah, within minutes the sister found peace and tranquility. Within 20 minutes she was sent home safely, and the following week she returned to the masjid wearing full hijab to pray. In another account, an ambassador’s critically ill child showed no improvement despite the best hospitals in the United States — yet after just 20 minutes of Quranic recitation, the child’s condition changed dramatically.
“The entire hospital observed how everything — all the modern systems — failed, where I, a simple person in my early twenties, provided her with peace, tranquility, and healing with the simple recitation of the Quran.”
From Hospital Beds to Prison Cells: The Quran Heals Body, Mind, and Soul
Imam Musa shared a remarkable story of an elderly man who suffered a stroke after open heart surgery and had a do-not-revive order in place. After reciting Surah Yasin over him, the monitors began changing within minutes. Doctors reversed their decision as his vitals drastically improved, and today — nearly three years later — that man is alive, visiting the masjid and praying in congregation. In a federal penitentiary, a 6-foot-4, 280-pound inmate was in an uncontrollable rage that no authority could subdue. When Imam Musa entered the cell and recited Surah Al-Fatiha, the man went completely calm, settling down as if ice water had been poured over him — all captured on security cameras while wardens watched in disbelief.
“This is not beneficial only to Muslims but is equally beneficial to non-believers as well. The Quran has the same effect of cure regardless of faith, color, creed, and cultural differences.”
How to Protect Yourself Through the Quran and Sunnah
- Establish the five daily prayers (Salah) on time — Sheikh Muhammad emphasized that those who miss Fajr prayer become vulnerable to spiritual attacks from Jinn and the effects of magic
- Recite the morning and evening adhkar — including the last verses of Surah Al-Baqarah and the three Quls (Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas) as the Prophet (peace be upon him) practiced
- Learn to recite the Quran properly with Tajweed — just as a phone number with one wrong digit fails to connect, Quran recited without proper pronunciation may not deliver its full healing power
- Use Surah Al-Fatiha for healing — known by over 25 names including “Ash-Shafiya” (The Healer), it was used by the Companions of the Prophet to cure even non-Muslims
- Seek pure natural honey alongside Quranic healing — as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Seek the cure from two things: the Quran and pure honey”
- Follow strict Islamic guidelines when seeking Ruqyah — ensure the practitioner is pious, adheres to the Quran and Sunnah, and never be alone with a non-mahram; avoid anyone who uses Jinn, sacrifices animals, or charges excessive fees
Every Muslim Community Needs a Qualified Raqi
Both scholars strongly urged that every masjid and Muslim community should have a trained, qualified Raqi who adheres to the Quran and authentic Sunnah. They also encouraged every Muslim to learn proper Quran recitation through resources like the Al-Qaida An-Nuraniyah method — authored by Sheikh Muhammad’s family and now available online at the Nurani Learning Center — so that each person can perform Ruqyah for themselves and their families. The message is clear: the Quran is a living miracle of Islam, a divine source of healing for physical illness, emotional distress, Jinn possession, and spiritual affliction. The key is sincere faith in Allah, proper recitation, and consistent practice of the Sunnah. As Allah says in the Quran, it is a healing and a mercy for the believers.
