Ahmed Shah, a U.S. Air Force veteran who served during 9/11 and the Iraq War, was raised as a Qadiani (Ahmadiyya) and believed he was a Muslim until he began studying Ahmadiyya beliefs in detail around 2004. What he discovered shocked him — fundamental contradictions with mainstream Islamic beliefs on prophethood, the life of Jesus, Adam as the first man, and the miracles of the prophets. His journey to true Islam cost him his father, his brother, and his ex-wife, but gained him the truth.
What Is the Ahmadiyya/Qadiani Movement?
The Ahmadiyya movement originated in the city of Qadian in India, where Mirza Ghulam Ahmad claimed to be a prophet and the messiah. This directly contradicts the fundamental Islamic belief that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the last and final messenger. After a major split in 1914, the educated faction moved to Lahore while the family of the founder remained in Qadian — hence the name “Qadiani” which they have since tried to distance themselves from.
“Someone claimed to be another messenger after Muhammad — but we know that there is nothing worthy of worship except the One God, and Muhammad is His final messenger. Every prophet from Jesus to Moses to Noah brought the same message, and Muhammad was the seal of the prophets.”
The Courage to Leave Everything for Truth
When Ahmed began sharing what he discovered about the contradictions in Ahmadiyya beliefs, his own family turned against him. His father, brother, and ex-wife all rejected him for choosing authentic Islam over the Qadiani movement. This is a price that many reverts and converts pay — but the reward with Allah for choosing truth over comfort and family pressure is beyond measure.
“Around 2004 I started reading about Ahmadiyya beliefs in detail and was shocked at how much they contradicted mainstream Islamic beliefs on prophethood, the life of Jesus, the miracles of the prophets. When I became a real Muslim around 2017, my father turned on me, my brother, and my ex-wife.”
What Every Muslim Should Know
- The finality of prophethood with Muhammad (peace be upon him) is a non-negotiable pillar of Islamic belief — any group that claims otherwise has left the fold of Islam
- Ahmed runs the Fact Check Blog where he documents the contradictions between Ahmadiyya teachings and authentic Islam
- Choosing truth over family acceptance is one of the hardest tests a believer can face, but it is the choice every prophet made
- Muslims should educate themselves about groups like the Ahmadiyya so they can recognize deviant teachings and protect their communities
