Brother Phil – Revert Story

Ten years ago, a French-Canadian man walked away from the church — not because he stopped believing in God, but because he couldn’t stop thinking about Jesus. Brother Phil’s revert story is one of the most intellectually honest and spiritually raw journeys you will ever encounter: a born-again Christian who studied the Bible with genuine devotion, compared what he read to what the church practiced, and followed the trail of truth wherever it led — straight to Islam. His own words say it best: “I am a French-Canadian Muslim because I love Jesus.”

From Born-Again Christian to Born-Again Muslim: A Trail of Contradictions

Brother Phil’s path began in sincere faith. After reading the Bible earnestly, he accepted Jesus and committed fully to Christian practice. But the deeper he studied, the wider the gap became between what Jesus actually lived and what the church demanded of him. Jesus prayed with his face to the ground — Muslims do exactly the same in every salah. Jesus observed divine dietary law and avoided what was forbidden — pork and shellfish were abominations in his time, yet Brother Phil found himself eating both without question. In church, he stood upright while praying, called on Jesus as an independent intercessor, and observed a faith shaped heavily by Pauline theology rather than the teachings of Jesus himself. These were not minor ceremonial differences — they cut to the heart of what Jesus embodied and proclaimed.

“Finally in my search between Jesus and Church, I believed in no contradictions. I stand with conviction: Jesus was a prophet sent on a mission — a Warner with a straightforward vision, no delusions or illusions.”
— Brother Phil

  • Jesus prayed prostrating with his face to the ground — the same position as Muslim sujood in every prayer
  • Pork and shellfish were Biblically forbidden during Jesus’s time — entirely consistent with Islamic dietary law
  • Jesus preached paradise through sincere faith, acts, and deeds of piety — not salvation through crucifixion alone
  • Paul’s theology diverged sharply from the message Jesus himself lived and conveyed
  • Jesus foretold the coming of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ — a point Brother Phil could not set aside once he saw it
  • The Quran’s account of Jesus (Isa عليه السلام) — Messiah, born of a virgin, mighty prophet — carries no internal contradictions, unlike the many versions of the Bible

Loving Jesus Fully — Through the Lens of Islam

What makes Brother Phil’s story so powerful for anyone on a spiritual search is that he did not abandon Jesus when he accepted Islam — he understood him more completely than ever before. He recognised that Jesus himself was in full submission to God, living out what the word Islam means at its root: complete surrender to the Creator alone. The Quran honours Isa عليه السلام as the Messiah, born of a virgin, a spirit from Allah and a noble prophet — and Brother Phil found that this account resolved every tension that had troubled him for years. When he discovered that Jesus had foretold the coming of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the final piece of a long-incomplete picture fell into place. The Shahada — the testimony that there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah, and that Muhammad is His messenger — was not a departure from the Jesus he loved, but a fulfilment of everything Jesus pointed towards.

“Like it or not, Jesus practised Islam. It was easy to admit that Jesus clearly had to submit — and as a Muslim, I am still in love with the same person.”
— Brother Phil

Brother Phil’s journey is a reminder that the search for truth, when pursued with sincerity and intellectual courage, is never wasted. Islam does not ask anyone to abandon what they loved — it asks them to go deeper, to trace every thread of genuine faith back to its source in the One God who sent all the prophets. For anyone standing at that crossroads today — uncertain, searching, troubled by the same questions Brother Phil once carried — the message is clear: the door is open, and you need neither a scholar present nor a certificate issued nor a formal ceremony attended. As the scholars have noted, Allah knows what is in every heart. All that is required is conviction, sincerity, and the willingness to say: I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His messenger. That single declaration, spoken with a sincere heart, is where every revert story — including Brother Phil’s — truly begins.
