In this heartfelt episode, a former musician who once performed in front of the legendary Jason Mraz sends a special message to his old friend, hoping that the same God who guided him from the music industry to Islam will also guide one of the artists who inspired his career. Having launched an album, toured across Asia playing reggae and funk music, and shared the stage with Mraz in Hong Kong, his journey from performer to practicing Muslim is a powerful testimony of how sincere supplication to the Creator changes everything.
From Performing for Jason Mraz to Sending Him the Quran
Before Islam, the guest performed at a concert in Hong Kong where Jason Mraz was in the audience. Mraz, who was his musical inspiration, came with his manager, stayed for the entire set, and told him “we are in the same team.” As soon as the guest accepted Islam, he sent Mraz a copy of the Quran during his first Ramadan. His message to Jason Mraz today: we are still on the same team, but under the banner of truth, which is the religion of Allah.
“I just want to say to Jason Mraz: we are still in the same team, but inshallah under the banner of Truth — which is the religion of Allah. There’s no other way to be on the path of Truth.”
A Song That Became a Prayer
- Right after meeting Mraz in Hong Kong, the guest was inspired to write a song called “Free to Love” in which he literally asked God: “Oh God, show me the light to be free”
- That sincere prayer was answered when Allah guided him to Islam a few years later
- The key to guidance is asking the Creator alone, with no intermediaries — sincerely asking “whoever created me, guide me”
- He describes Jason Mraz as a seeker of truth with a great spirit who loves organic farming and healthy living — all qualities that align with Islamic values
- His hope is that Mraz’s followers will share this message with him so he can look at Islam with fresh eyes and an open heart
