And such of your slaves as seek a writing (of emancipation), give them such writing, if you know that they are good and trustworthy. And give them something yourselves out of the wealth of Allah which He has bestowed upon you. (24:33)

Islam, without doubt, encourages and promotes the freeing of slaves. This is evident in the numerous ways Allah has made freeing a slave an expiation for sins. For example,if a Muslim breaks an oath, he/she is meant to free a slave in order to expiate that sin. With this being said is ‘Slavery’ allowed in Islam? this video will shed some light on the matter and give you a better understanding of how slaves were treated in the time of the Prophet (saw) and what he informed us about the issue.
