Eddie talks with Sheikh Yusuf Estes about shirk, the unforgivable sin. Translated into Urdu.

Unforgivable Sin Part 1 in Urdu

Among the most important concepts every person must understand is what constitutes an unforgivable sin in the sight of God. In Islam, the gravest sin is shirk, associating partners with Allah, and it comes in forms that are not always obvious.

Blasphemy and the Oneness of God

Blasphemy means speaking about God in an insolent or disrespectful manner, attributing to Him qualities that diminish His majesty, or claiming divine status for any creation. When the Jews accused Prophet Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him) of calling himself God, his response pointed back to the foundational truth of all scripture: God is One, and He alone is worthy of worship with all your heart, mind, and strength.

“To understand the Old Testament and the New Testament and find the connection between them, you have to read the Last Testament, the final revelation.”

Three Types of Shirk

Islam identifies three categories of associating partners with Allah:

  • Major Shirk: Worshipping someone or something alongside Allah, or attributing divine qualities to creation
  • Minor Shirk (Shirk al-Asghar): Relying on talismans, lucky charms, or amulets for protection instead of trusting Allah alone, even while claiming to worship only Him
  • Hidden Shirk (Shirk al-Khafi): The most subtle form, which the Prophet (peace be upon him) compared to a black ant walking on a black stone in the darkness of night, nearly impossible to detect

“The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Can you see a black ant walking on a black stone in the darkness of the black night? This was his example regarding hidden shirk.”

The path back from any sin begins with turning to Allah in sincere repentance, establishing prayer, and fulfilling His rights through taqwa. No matter how far a person has strayed, the door of return to Allah remains open for those who are sincere.
