Imam Danny, a Puerto Rican American, shares his powerful story of finding Islam through the Quran and his ongoing mission to bring the message of Islam to the growing Latino community across the United States. Having accepted Islam after experiencing the profound impact of the Quran’s solutions to the challenges he faced as a young man in America, Imam Danny is now one of the leading voices in the Spanish-speaking dawah movement. His visit to Chicago for the AMJA conference proved to be filled with unexpected, fruitful dawah encounters — from restaurants to the streets outside the masjid — reminding us that the work done for Allah’s sake bears fruit in ways we may never anticipate.
The Quran: Preserved, Pure, and Transformative
“What distinguishes the Quran from other scriptures is its preservation. For 1,450 years, the Quran has remained uncorrupted. Allah says: ‘Praise is due to Allah, the One who has revealed the Book and placed therein no crookedness.’ The Quran doesn’t need somebody to support it — it stands on its own.”
When asked why the Quran is different from other religious scriptures, Imam Danny pointed to the undeniable miracle of its preservation. While the Bible has gone through numerous human modifications and the original Aramaic teachings of Jesus (peace be upon him) no longer exist in any recitable form, the Quran remains exactly as it was revealed — in Arabic — and is memorized and recited by millions of non-Arabs around the world. A Puerto Rican man reciting the Quran fluently in its original Arabic is itself a testament to Allah’s favor and the universality of Islam’s message.
- The Quran has been preserved in its original Arabic for over 1,450 years — no other scripture can make this claim
- Islam confirms that God sent prophets and scriptures throughout history, but the Quran is the final, uncorrupted revelation
- Islam offers a direct connection to God — no saints, no middlemen, no confession box, just the individual and their Creator
- The Latino community’s response to Islamic dawah materials has been overwhelmingly positive, with little backlash
- Islam in Spanish provides free live programs, seminars on prayer, worship, and other topics via their YouTube channel
- Latinos are becoming a majority in major American cities — Muslims have a duty to share the message in Spanish
A Message for the Latino Community
“What Islam offers as a way of life — for the individual, the family, the community, the society — should be taken into consideration. With the priority of being connected to God directly. The Prophet said: ‘Whoever puts his trust in God, He will suffice him.'”
Imam Danny’s invitation to the Latino community is clear and compelling: Islam is not a foreign religion — it is the universal way of life prescribed by the same God who created all of humanity. The values that Latinos hold dear — family, respect for elders, community, faith, and hard work — are central pillars of Islam. The negative media propaganda about Muslims often backfires, creating curiosity that leads sincere people to discover the beauty of Islam for themselves.
