Name: Allah – In the Names of Allah [1/4]

Every aspect of a Muslim’s daily life — from eating breakfast to going to the bathroom to making wudu — can be transformed into worship through the simple phrase “Bismillah” (In the name of Allah). Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that the purpose behind this constant remembrance is not that Allah needs our praise, but that we need the awareness of Allah to make right choices, find inner peace, and stay on the straight path.

Why Constant Remembrance Matters

When we forget Allah, we become vulnerable to every evil influence around us. When we remember Him, we find tranquility and clarity. Allah says in the Quran: “It is only with the remembrance of Allah that hearts find rest.” This explains why people who seem to have everything — wealth, fame, power — still destroy themselves with drugs and depression: there is no inner peace without consciousness of the Creator.

“It is only with the remembrance of Allah that hearts find rest.” — Quran 13:28

Turning Mundane Acts Into Worship

  • Eating and drinking — Say Bismillah before meals; following the Sunnah transforms this basic act into worship of Allah
  • Using the bathroom — The Prophet taught a dua seeking refuge from evil jinn, turning even this lowly moment into remembrance of Allah
  • Making wudu — The Prophet said there is no complete wudu without saying Bismillah; with proper wudu, sins fall away with every drop of water
  • Beginning prayer — Before reciting Al-Fatihah, the Prophet would pause and say: “O Allah, put distance between me and my sins as You have distanced the east from the west”
  • End of prayer — The Prophet sought refuge from the punishment of Hell, the torment of the grave, the trials of life and death, and the trial of the Antichrist

The Spiritual Reality of Wudu

“There is no prayer for one who does not make wudu, and there is no wudu without mentioning the name of Allah.” — Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)

When wudu is performed properly with Bismillah at its start and a supplication at its end — “O Allah, make me of those who frequently turn to You in repentance and who purify themselves” — it becomes more than a physical wash. The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught that sins fall away from each limb with the drops of water, preparing the believer to enter prayer in a purified spiritual state. The goal is to remain in wudu as much as possible throughout the day, keeping that spiritual connection alive.
