The Deen Show: Addressing Misconceptions Around Handshakes in Different Cultures

In a recent episode, Eddie sheds light...

Khabib vs George Clooney Handshake Controversy & Double Standards EXPOSED!

When Muslim UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov declined to shake hands with a woman, the internet erupted with accusations of misogyny and extremism. But the outrage exposed a glaring double standard: George Clooney was caught on camera avoiding a handshake with a woman and nobody batted an eye. Orthodox Jews follow the exact same practice. Japanese culture avoids physical contact with strangers entirely. Even during COVID, the entire Western world normalized not touching anyone. So why is it only a problem when a Muslim does it?

The Real Misogyny Nobody Talks About

While critics attack Khabib for respecting boundaries, the same culture has turned women into products. OnlyFans hosts approximately 4.5 million content creators with over 70% being women. The global adult entertainment industry was valued at $183 billion in 2024. Over 30% of American women are on antidepressants. Among teen girls, antidepressant use has risen 130%. Over one in four homes are fatherless. This is the real misogyny: reducing women to body parts, putting a price on their dignity, and calling it empowerment while mental health collapses.

“You mock our values while society crumbles from inside. You attack chastity while American women are being sold for subscriptions. You claim to protect women, yet glorify the very industries that are breaking them.”

What Islam Actually Teaches About Women

Islam commands Muslims to honor, protect, and preserve the dignity of mothers, wives, and all women as a divine trust from God. The refusal to shake hands with the opposite gender is not about hate or superiority. It is about self-restraint, discipline, and obedience to the Creator. Morally conscious people from all backgrounds recognize and respect this about Islam: it does not bend to cultural pressure, and its standards of modesty and chastity remain intact while other traditions have abandoned them.

“In technology we have definitely advanced, but in morality it is definitely crumbling. Islam doesn’t bend. This is Khabib showing that, being an example of that.”

The Double Standard Exposed

  • George Clooney, Japanese culture, Orthodox Jews, and Buddhist monks all avoid opposite-gender physical contact without controversy
  • During COVID, the entire world normalized avoiding all physical contact with no accusations of extremism
  • The adult entertainment industry generates hundreds of billions while women’s mental health deteriorates at record rates
  • Islam’s standards of modesty protected women’s dignity centuries before the modern world began exploiting them
  • Khabib’s refusal to compromise his faith under pressure is exactly the kind of principled strength the world needs more of
