Tim Klein, a former NFL player whose promising career was tragically cut short by a drunk driver, joined TheDeenShow to share his story of resilience and faith. After the accident destroyed his brachial plexus, left him with severe injuries, and took away the career he had worked his entire life for — and then being diagnosed with lymphoid leukemia on top of it all — Tim refuses to give up and delivers a powerful message about making the most of the time you have.
From the NFL to Fighting for His Life
Tim had just begun his professional football career, playing for almost two seasons in the NFL, when a drunk driver struck his vehicle in a horrific accident. The car rolled several times, causing severe damage to his neck and ending his athletic career. To add insult to injury, the woman who hit him was originally arrested but essentially received a slap on the wrist. Now battling lymphoid leukemia, Tim maintains an inspiring outlook that puts many healthy people to shame.
“So many people want to sit there and make excuses about why they can’t do stuff. I’m a living example of why you can’t make excuses. If there’s anything you want to do, just put it in front of you and make sure you achieve it.”
Lessons on Faith and Fairness
- Tim was impressed by the unity and teamwork he witnessed in the Muslim community — “everyone wants to grow as a team, as a unity, and that to me is amazing”
- On Islamophobia, he stated plainly: “You can’t judge a whole religion based on what a couple people do — there are extremists in every religion”
- He drew parallels to domestic terrorism in America, noting that bombers have targeted pregnancy centers and clinics, yet nobody blames all Americans
- His advice for anyone facing hardship: never give up, never make excuses, and always put your goals in front of you regardless of circumstances
- The conversation reinforced that life is short and unpredictable — one moment you are on top of the world, the next everything can change, so purpose and faith matter above all else
