Do these people who Attack Islam have stinky feet?

When a Canadian court fined a landlord for violating tenant laws — including refusing to remove his shoes in a Muslim tenant’s home where they pray and making derogatory anti-Muslim jokes online — the Islamophobia industry went into overdrive. Headlines screamed about “Sharia tax” invading Canada, fear-mongers salivated over another opportunity to demonize Muslims, and the real issues of basic human decency and mutual respect were buried beneath manufactured outrage. This episode tackles the hysteria head-on by breaking down the actual story, exposing the hate machine’s tactics, and presenting the top five reasons why removing your shoes at home is simply good sense — not some foreign, sinister practice.

Top 5 Reasons to Take Off Your Shoes at Home

Removing shoes indoors is not uniquely Islamic — it is practiced across cultures worldwide and supported by basic hygiene science. Yet because Muslims do it, the hate machine tries to frame it as something threatening. Here are the practical reasons that make this custom universally wise:

  • Biblical precedent — In Exodus 3:5, God commanded Moses to remove his sandals because he was standing on holy ground. Christians and Jews share this tradition in their own scriptures
  • Japanese and Asian cultures have practiced shoe removal for centuries as a sign of respect and cleanliness
  • Scientific studies show that the bottom of shoes carry an average of 421,000 bacteria, including E. coli and other harmful pathogens that get tracked onto floors where children play
  • Removing shoes protects your home environment from pesticides, lead dust, and other toxic substances picked up from outdoor surfaces
  • It is simply common courtesy — if someone makes a small request to keep their living space clean, respecting that request is basic human decency

“The hate machine depends and thrives on your ignorance of real, authentic Islam. They capitalize on this, taking advantage of good people, making Muslim concepts as foreign as possible for the sake of demonizing them.”

Clean Your Feet, But More Importantly Clean Your Heart

The real issue was never about shoes or Sharia — it was about a landlord who refused to show basic respect to his tenants and made anti-Muslim remarks publicly. The court addressed tenant rights violations, not Islamic law. The five-minute heads-up the Muslim family requested was simply so the wife could be modestly dressed before a stranger entered — something any reasonable person would appreciate. Yet the fear-mongers twisted this into a narrative about Sharia invading the West, banking on the ignorance of audiences who have never actually met a Muslim or studied Islam.

“The only way to truly clean the heart is by connecting it to the Owner of the heart — worshipping the Creator alone, not His creation. Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon them all, called people to worship God alone and love your neighbor.”

More important than clean feet is a clean heart — one free from the bigotry, hatred, and prejudice that the hate industry works so hard to plant. As Jesus (peace be upon him) himself said when asked about the greatest commandment: “Hear O Israel, the Lord thy God is One” — the same message of Tawheed that Islam calls to. Before leaving a hateful comment or sharing fear-mongering propaganda, be courageous enough to pick up the phone, call 1-800-662-ISLAM, visit a mosque, and make a genuine human connection. You might be surprised at the doors of goodness that open when sincerity replaces ignorance.
