A common argument used to justify the belief that God can become a man is the claim that “God can do anything.” While this sounds logical on the surface, a careful analysis reveals that this reasoning actually contradicts the very nature and attributes of the Almighty Creator. Understanding this distinction is essential for anyone genuinely seeking the truth about God.
Why God Cannot Become a Human Being
If God were to become a human being, He would cease to be God — because the attributes of God and a human being are fundamentally contradictory. God is Immortal, while humans are mortal. God has no beginning, while humans have a beginning. God does not need food, rest, or sleep, while humans require all of these. You cannot have a being who is simultaneously immortal and mortal, or who has both a beginning and no beginning — these are meaningless contradictions, like describing someone as a “tall short man.”
The Quran declares in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255): “Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth.”
What the Quran Actually Teaches About God’s Power
- The Quran never says God can do “anything and everything” — it says Allah has power over all things, meaning whatever He intends, He can accomplish
- God will never intend ungodly acts such as lying, forgetting, making mistakes, or becoming a human being
- If God became human, who would have controlled the entire universe during those years on earth?
- Telling a lie is ungodly — the moment God lies, He ceases to be God. The same applies to injustice, forgetfulness, and taking human form
“Allah is the Doer of all that He intends.” (Quran 85:16) — Whatever Allah wills, He accomplishes, but He will never will something that contradicts His divine nature.
The Islamic understanding of God’s power is both rational and reverent. Allah is perfect, free from all human limitations, and He does whatever He intends — but He never intends that which is ungodly. This is the pure, uncompromised monotheism that Islam calls all of humanity to embrace.
