A French musician who spent years searching for spiritual truth through Buddhism, Catholic pilgrimages, and shamanism shares how he was never comfortable singing songs that proclaimed Jesus as the Son of God. Even while performing in churches and at religious events, something deep inside him resisted whenever the lyrics crossed from praising God to deifying Jesus. That inner discomfort was his fitrah — the natural inclination toward pure monotheism — calling him home to Islam.
Singing for God But Not About Jesus Being God
As a musician in France, the guest regularly performed at Christian events and in churches. He believed in God but struggled with the theological claims of Christianity. When songs praised God the Creator, he sang wholeheartedly. But when the lyrics turned to Jesus being the Son of God or God incarnate, he would go silent. He could not bring himself to sing those words because they contradicted what his heart told him was true. He also recognized that the devil, Shaytan, was real — a belief that deepened after his experiences in the music industry.
“I was not happy when they were singing about Jesus being God. When it was songs about God, I was singing with them. But when it was Jesus being the Son of God, I was like — no, this is not right.”
A 1,000-Kilometer Walk to Find God
His spiritual search took him through Buddhism with its silent meditation retreats, a 1,000-kilometer Catholic pilgrimage across Spain called the Camino de Santiago over 30 grueling days, and even Mexican shamanism. None of these paths provided the answers his soul craved. It was only when he opened the Quran and found Jesus honored as a mighty prophet — not God, not the Son of God, but a beloved messenger — that everything finally made sense.
- Buddhism offered meditation but no connection to a personal Creator
- The Christian pilgrimage was physically punishing but spiritually unfulfilling — 50 kilometers per day for 30 days and still no answers
- Shamanism promised spiritual experiences but lacked divine guidance and truth
- Islam answered every question: God is One, Jesus was His messenger, and there is a clear purpose to life
- His advice: let go of pride and sincerely ask your Creator for guidance — the fitrah inside every person will respond when given the chance
