Snoop Dogg joined the Nation but is this Islam?

In this eye-opening episode of The Deen Show, Imam Qasim — a former Baptist Christian who became a minister in the Nation of Islam before finding true Islam — breaks down the critical differences between the Nation of Islam and authentic Islam. With high-profile figures like Snoop Dogg joining the Nation, it is more important than ever for people to understand that the Nation of Islam and the religion of Islam are two fundamentally different things.

What the Nation of Islam Actually Was

Imam Qasim, who served as a minister in the Nation of Islam, explains that the organization was founded primarily as a nationalistic movement designed to uplift African Americans during the oppressive era of the 1950s-70s. While it appeared to be a religion on the surface, it was more of a social strategy created by Elijah Muhammad to stop Black Americans from self-destructive behaviors and to build self-respect. The focus was on reverse psychology and racial empowerment rather than the universal teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who lived 1,400 years ago.

“There is no racism in Islam. The real Prophet Muhammad, who lived 1,400 years ago, taught that there is no difference between the white man and the black man, between the Arab and the non-Arab, except in one thing — the degree to which you worship your Lord, fear Him, and obey Him.”

Key Differences Between the Nation and True Islam

  • Islam teaches that Muhammad ibn Abdullah (peace be upon him) is the last and final prophet — anyone claiming prophethood after him contradicts the fundamental creed of Islam
  • The Nation of Islam was built on racial ideology, while authentic Islam explicitly condemns racism and declares all human beings equal before God based solely on their piety and God-consciousness
  • True Islam calls people to worship the Creator alone — not a white man, not a black man, not any human being — and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said we are all like the teeth of a comb, equal in our humanity
  • Imam Qasim now works with the Muslim Alliance in North America (MANA), focusing on helping displaced families, orphans, and the thousands of Muslims released from prison daily who need support and spiritual guidance

“God Almighty uses people to keep Hellfire fueled — and anyone who dies without being in total submission to God will face that reality. You cannot play with Islam. Either submit to Almighty God completely, or face the consequences.”

This episode serves as an important clarification for anyone confused by the use of the word “Islam” in the Nation of Islam’s name. The path of true Islam — submission to the One God, following the final Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and treating all people with justice regardless of race — stands in clear contrast to any movement built on racial ideology or human-made theology.
