Continuing the introductory lectures on the Seerah, this session explores the physical appearance, character, and unique specialties of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Islamic tradition holds that Allah sends His prophets with the most perfect inward and outward qualities so that humanity has no reason to reject them — and our Prophet was blessed above all creation in both beauty and character.
A Beauty Beyond Description
When the companion Rubayyi was asked to describe the Prophet years after his passing, all she could say was: “My dear son, if you had seen him, you would have thought the sun had risen.” Other companions compared his blessed face to the full moon when he was happy. The Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) was given half of all beauty — and some scholars say this means half of the Prophet Muhammad’s beauty, placing him as the most beautiful of all creation.
“If you had seen him, you would have thought the sun had risen.”
Lessons from His Character
- A man once asked the Prophet when the Day of Judgment would come — instead of dismissing the question, the Prophet redirected him: “What have you prepared for it?”
- The man replied he had little charity to offer but possessed a genuine love for Allah and His Messenger
- The Prophet responded: “A person will be with those whom he loves” — bringing immense joy to the companions
- This teaches us that sincere love for the Prophet and following his example is a path to being near him in the Hereafter
“Allah says in the Quran: If you truly love Allah, then follow me — Allah will love you and forgive your sins.”
