Ex-Muslim John Does the Unthinkable in Mecca at the Kaaba 🕋 | Was He Really Even Muslim?

A viral video recently surfaced showing a man named John, originally from Yemen, claiming he abandoned Islam right at the Kaaba in Mecca. He alleges that while performing tawaf around the sacred house, he questioned whether the Creator lives inside the structure, concluded it was man-made idolatry, and walked away from his faith on the spot. But when examined under even the most basic lens of Islamic knowledge, his story falls apart completely — raising the critical question of whether he was ever truly a Muslim at all, or simply another clout-chaser riding the lucrative “ex-Muslim” wave.

A Fundamental Misunderstanding of Islam and the Kaaba

The entire premise of John’s testimony rests on a staggering misconception: that Muslims believe Allah literally resides inside the Kaaba. No Muslim — not a single one with even elementary knowledge of Islam — holds this belief. The Kaaba is the first house of worship, built by Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to commemorate the worship of one God alone. Muslims do not worship the Kaaba, the Black Stone, or anything in creation. When John was asked about the six articles of faith — the absolute foundation of Islamic belief — he could not name them and confused them with the five pillars. This is Islam 101, and his inability to answer reveals a profound lack of genuine engagement with the religion he claims to have left:

  • Tawheed (pure monotheism) — the very first article of faith — teaches that Allah is above all creation, not contained within any structure
  • Muslims recite “Subhana Rabbiyal A’la” (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High) in every prayer, affirming God’s transcendence
  • You can pray inside the Kaaba, on top of it, or even if it were destroyed — because worship is directed to the Creator alone
  • Anyone who worships the Kaaba itself would be committing shirk (associating partners with God) and would be outside of Islam

If you don’t know the core belief of Islam, how are you going to be a Muslim? When you sit down and actually talk with someone who has a basic understanding of Islam, you see that there was no Islam. They didn’t understand Islam. They didn’t live Islam.

The “Ex-Muslim” Industry and the Search for Sincerity

What we see with individuals like John is a growing pattern — people with little to no genuine foundation in faith who build entire platforms around dramatic departure stories. John now dresses in Yemeni clothing while evangelizing, crafting an identity designed to lend credibility to a narrative that crumbles under scrutiny. When pressed with respectful but direct questions during the interview, he became visibly uncomfortable and abruptly disconnected from the conversation before the discussion could go any deeper. This is not the behavior of someone confident in their position. Islam actually encourages questioning — it is through sincere inquiry that millions have found guidance and embraced the truth. The real question is not why someone would leave Islam, but whether they ever truly entered it with understanding and sincerity in the first place.

Islam encourages people to question, to ask — and that’s how you’re going to get to the truth. Ask the Creator alone for guidance. Read the Quran. Do your research. The only one that can guide you is the one who created you — God Almighty, the Most Merciful, the Loving.

Faith, Guidance, and the Invitation to Truth

Muslims love and revere Jesus (peace be upon him) as the Messiah, a mighty messenger of God who performed miracles, defended his mother’s honor, and called people to pure monotheism — just like every prophet before him. You cannot be a Muslim without believing in and loving Jesus. The difference is that Islam preserves the original message of all the prophets: worship the Creator alone, not the creation. For anyone genuinely seeking the truth about Islam, the Kaaba, Mecca, and what Muslims actually believe, the invitation is always open. Pick up the Quran, read it for yourself, and sincerely ask the one who created you — the source of all guidance and mercy — to lead you to what is true. No human being can guide another; only Allah, the Most Merciful, can open hearts and illuminate the path of faith.
