Of all the questions a human being can ask, none is more important than this: why am I here? This lecture cuts through the confusion of modern life to deliver the answer with striking clarity. Allah states in the Quran that He created human beings for one purpose: to worship Him alone. Everything else, from career to family to wealth, is secondary to this singular, defining truth.
Everything Has a Purpose, Including You
Look around any room and you will not find a single object placed there without reason. Every organism, every insect, even the humble house fly, has a purpose. It would be absurd to suggest that everything in creation has a purpose except the most sophisticated creature within it: the human being. The purpose of life, as Allah reveals in the Quran, is to worship the Creator alone and to associate nothing alongside Him in that worship.
“The most important message has to be digestible, clear, and understandable. It can’t come to you coded or within a mystery. The purpose of life is to worship Allah, and that is as simple as it gets.”
What Takes People Off Course
- Some conclude that the purpose of life is making money, then pass that same cycle on to their children
- Others believe they were born to become actors, models, or celebrities, placing these goals above their Creator
- The worst crime in Islam is to worship someone or something alongside Allah, whether it is a person, an idol, or one’s own desires
- Distractions pull people away from their purpose, but the purpose itself never changes
The Five Pillars Made Simple
Islam’s requirements are straightforward and manageable. The testimony of faith declares that only one God deserves worship and that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His final messenger. The five daily prayers take roughly 30 minutes combined. Zakat (charity) supports those in need. Fasting during Ramadan is just one month out of twelve. And the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca is required only once in a lifetime for those physically and financially able.
“If these five things did not turn you off and did not scare you away, then you actually now have agreed with what makes you a Muslim. Do not think this is a departure from the teachings of Jesus. This is the continuation of what all the prophets came with.”
The Invitation
- Do not let bills, work, exams, or deadlines take priority over the most important question you will ever answer
- If you believe only one God should be worshipped and that Muhammad fits the mold of a prophet in his teachings and character, you have the ingredients of a Muslim
- Talk to Muslims around you, take free educational materials, and examine the evidence for yourself
- The greatest treasure in this life is guidance from the Creator; everything else fades in comparison
