Listen to this prayer a Christian Catholic made before he converted to Islam

When a lifelong Catholic raises his hands in sincere prayer asking God for righteousness, piety, and guidance to the truth — even if it goes against himself — something extraordinary begins to unfold. Gibson, born in Bogota, Colombia, and raised in Florida, spent years on a deeply personal search for his Creator. From the age of nine, he questioned the beliefs handed down to him, studied world religions with an open heart, and ultimately found every answer he was looking for in Islam.

A Catholic Upbringing With Honest Questions About Faith

Gibson grew up in a Colombian Catholic family that taught him to pray, maintain good character, and stay away from harmful influences like alcohol and drugs. Yet his family also recognized something many Catholics quietly acknowledge — that the church as an institution carried historical corruption, and that belief in God should be separate from blind loyalty to any religious organization. When young Gibson began asking his local pastor sincere questions about Catholic doctrine, he was told not to question anything and just believe. The answers he did receive left him unconvinced. The concept of the Trinity — God as three in one, the Creator becoming a human being — felt like being asked to draw a square circle. It contradicted the very nature of a Creator who exists beyond space, time, and matter.

“I always ask God to make me righteous and pious, and to show me the truth even if it goes against me. That prayer is what guided me through my whole journey — through high school, through college, through my entire life — until I found Islam.”

A Seven-Year Search Through World Religions

From ages nine to twelve and well beyond, Gibson explored Catholicism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Hinduism, Protestantism, Orthodox Christianity, and Judaism. He studied their histories, beliefs, and cultures, always taking the good moral teachings and leaving behind what contradicted logic and the nature of the Creator. Every religion carried some form of truth — kindness to neighbors, avoiding intoxicants, feeding the poor — but each also contained contradictions or required worshiping something within creation rather than the Creator Himself. Islam was the only path that offered:

  • Pure monotheism (Tawheed) — worshiping the Creator alone, not any part of His creation
  • A logical, consistent explanation of who God is — beyond space, time, and matter
  • Historical accuracy with no internal contradictions in the Quran
  • Fulfilled prophecies that can be verified and confirmed
  • A complete way of life with guidance for everything from daily routines to running a society
  • The honored status of Jesus (peace be upon him) as a mighty prophet and the Messiah — not as God, but as one of the greatest human beings ever created

The Prayer That Changed Everything

“Accepting Islam was very simple. It was what felt natural. This is what I always believed, and I finally found other people who believed it too. Islam is the only religion that logically explains who your Creator is. Allah is the Creator of space, time, and matter — everything you see and everything you don’t see — and you will only know of Him what He says about Himself, nothing more and nothing less.”

From Shahada to a Transformed Family

Gibson’s conversion story carries a beautiful ending that continues to grow. After he took his shahada and fully embraced Islam, his mother also accepted the faith. His father, deeply moved by Islam’s teachings, regularly quotes Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), attends the masjid, and speaks about Islam with his friends. Gibson’s journey proves that when you sincerely ask God for guidance and truth with a clean heart — free from ego, cultural pressure, and blind tradition — the Creator answers. If his story resonates with you, make that same prayer today: ask your Creator to make you righteous, to make you pious, and to guide you to the truth even if it be against yourself. That single prayer, made with sincerity, can change the entire course of your life.
