Muslim Parents VS LGBTQ Books For Little Ones

Across the United States, Muslim parents are rising up to protect their children from sexually explicit material being introduced into public school libraries and classrooms. In Dearborn, Michigan, a powerful movement of families grounded in Islam and faith-based morality has drawn national attention, as mothers and fathers unite to demand that schools return to their core mission: teaching reading, writing, and preparing young people for successful futures — not exposing them to graphic content that violates deeply held family values.

Why Muslim Parents Are Speaking Out Against Explicit School Books

The controversy centers on books available to students in Dearborn Public Schools that contain pornographic illustrations and step-by-step depictions of sexual acts between minors. One book titled Flamer, checked out by a high school student, depicts sexually explicit acts between young boys with graphic descriptions. Parents argue — and rightly so — that if this material cannot be broadcast on television, it has absolutely no place in a classroom where children as young as ten years old can access it. As one parent put it, when you put something in a child’s mind, it makes them want to try it. This is not education; it is the corruption of innocence.

The fundamental existence of school is not to learn about sexual pleasure or new sex acts. The fundamental purpose of school is to prepare our kids to be successful adults who can go off and have careers. It is up to every parent to teach their kids morality. It is out of place for the school to do it, and I reject any notion that parents here are filled with hate or bigotry.

Islam Teaches Parents to Guard Their Children

  • Parental authority in education: In Islam, parents hold the sacred responsibility of shaping their children’s moral and spiritual development. Schools that undermine this role violate a trust that families place in the public education system.
  • Protecting childhood innocence: Islam emphasizes modesty, decency, and age-appropriate knowledge. Exposing young children to explicit sexual content — regardless of orientation — is an assault on the fitrah (natural disposition) that every child is born with.
  • Morality is not bigotry: Muslim parents have made clear that their objection is to pornographic content, not to any group of people. If books depicted explicit acts between a husband and wife, the same parents would protest just as loudly. The standard is faith and decency, not selective outrage.
  • Community unity across faiths: Christians and Muslims in Dearborn are standing shoulder to shoulder, proving that people of faith can cooperate to defend children and uphold shared moral principles in education.
  • Democratic majority must be heard: In a city where faith-driven families form the majority, school boards have a duty to respect the community’s boundaries on what is appropriate for children.

A Call to Action for Muslim Leaders and Organizations

If you had an individual who came to a children’s park and was showing this book and all the explicit content to children at the playground, that individual would probably be charged and arrested. So what difference is it if a teacher in a school is showing these explicit things to a young child? It’s nonsensical — it makes no sense.

Standing United for Faith, Family, and the Future

This is not just a Dearborn issue. From Grand Rapids to Kalamazoo to cities across the nation, school boards are attempting to override the God-given rights of parents to determine how their children learn about morality and human relationships. Muslim politicians, organizations like CAIR, imams, and community leaders must seize this moment to speak up, support these courageous families, and protect the next generation. When believers stand together — grounded in Islam, guided by faith, and motivated by love for their children — they become an unstoppable force for good. The time to act is now, and every parent who cares about family values, moral education, and the well-being of their children should add their voice to this critical cause.
