When a DVD called “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West” landed in mailboxes across America, it was designed to spread fear and hatred. But for one American Muslim, it had the opposite effect, igniting a passion to serve his community and push back against the tidal wave of misinformation targeting Islam and Muslims. This episode features his story alongside inspiring young American Muslims who represent the true face of their faith with pride, intelligence, and confidence.
Young American Muslims Speak Up
Among the guests are young Muslims aged 11 and 13 who articulate their faith with a clarity that puts many adults to shame. When asked “Do you worship a moon god?” an 11-year-old responds without hesitation: “Allah is the Creator of the universe.” When asked about Jesus, a 13-year-old explains that Jesus (Prophet Isa) was a prophet of Allah who came to spread the message of Islam, but over time the original message was altered. These young voices represent a generation of Muslims who are both proudly American and proudly Muslim.
We love Jesus as a mighty messenger of God. Some people think Muslims are the anti-Christ, that they don’t like Jesus. But no Muslim is a Muslim unless they believe in and love Jesus, peace be upon him.
Fighting Misinformation with Unity
- Self-proclaimed “experts” on Islam like certain politicians are dangerous because they project authority on a subject they do not understand
- The Muslim community must remain united despite internal differences because it has been under sustained public assault for decades
- When Islam historically spread through new lands, Muslims established churches and synagogues for non-Muslims, and people converted through witnessing good character, not through force
- Even the Mongols, who conquered Muslim lands by military force, ended up adopting Islam themselves
There is no record in history of people being forced at sword-point to convert to Islam. When the Mongols invaded and conquered large portions of the Islamic empire, instead of destroying the religion, they adopted it.
The Quran itself commands Muslims: “Fight in the way of Allah those that fight you, but do not transgress limits, for God does not love transgressors.” And: “If they seek peace, then you seek peace.” Nowhere in the Quran or the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is there any endorsement of killing innocent people. The real threat is not Islam but the ignorance and stereotyping that prevents people from seeing the truth of a faith practiced peacefully by nearly two billion people worldwide.
