Conversion Story – Yusha Evans

Few conversion stories carry the spiritual weight of Yusha Evans — a man who once stood before Christian congregations as a Youth Minister, Bible in hand, fully invested in a faith he was born into. Raised in Greenville, South Carolina under the name Joshua Evans, he was not a passive churchgoer but an active leader, expected to guide others toward salvation. Yet it was precisely this intimacy with scripture — reading the Bible not to affirm but to genuinely understand — that set him on a profound journey of faith, purpose, and spiritual reckoning. After years of sincere, unbiased study, Yusha Evans accepted Islam in 1998, and today he dedicates his life to sharing its guidance as Project Director for Y-Islam, educating and inviting others to the path that transformed his own.

When Honest Study Led a Youth Minister Away from the Church

Yusha’s departure from Christianity did not come from rebellion or cynicism — it came from rigorous, courageous inquiry. Beginning in late 1996, he opened the Bible with fresh eyes and an unbiased mind, and what he found troubled him deeply. The theological contradictions between the Old and New Testaments, the divergence between Jesus’s own teachings and those of Paul, and the troubling depictions of prophets — Noah portrayed as a drunkard, David committing grave moral failures — all signalled to him that the Bible could not be the uncorrupted word of God. Paul’s doctrines, he found, bore unmistakable resemblances to Roman paganism rather than to the pure monotheism Jesus had actually preached. These were not minor discrepancies but fundamental fractures at the very foundation of Christian theology. His intellectual honesty and sincere desire for spiritual truth compelled him to step back, think analytically, and search for a religion that truly reflected the nature and will of the One Creator — and that search led him to Islam.

“I decided to leave Christianity, take a step back and analytically look at what is going on, and try to find the right religion of God.” — Yusha Evans

One God, One Message: Answering the Hardest Questions About Jesus and the Trinity

At the heart of Yusha’s testimony are carefully reasoned answers to the questions that define the divide between Christianity and Islam. Drawing on both scripture and logic, he addresses, one by one, the theological pillars of mainstream Christian belief — not with hostility, but with measured clarity and deep respect for Jesus (peace be upon him) as a noble prophet of God. His key arguments are as follows:

  • Jesus cannot be God: God is the Creator of all that exists — including time, space, and matter. He cannot be subject to or contained within His own creation. Jesus was born, wept, ate, and prayed — attributes incompatible with the divine nature of the Almighty.
  • Jesus never claimed divinity: Every time he was praised, Jesus redirected attention to God. When called “Good Master,” he responded: “Why do you call me good? There is none good but one — and that is God.”
  • The Trinity is logically incoherent: 1 + 1 + 1 equals three, not one. The Quran answers this perfectly: had there been more than one God, conflict and disorder would reign across the heavens and the earth — yet we observe only perfect, singular harmony throughout creation.
  • “Only begotten Son” was a later addition: Bible scholars themselves acknowledge that this phrase does not appear in the original texts — it was inserted during the Roman Church’s compilation of the Bible.
  • Adam holds a stronger claim than Jesus: If virgin birth makes Jesus the Son of God, then Adam — created with neither father nor mother, formed directly by God’s hands — has an even greater claim. Yet no one calls Adam the Son of God; it reveals that miracle alone does not equal divine sonship.
  • Jesus was a Muslim: A prophet who always submitted his will entirely to God and called others to do the same, Jesus (peace be upon him) exemplified Islam in its purest sense — complete, willing surrender to the One Creator. His greatest commandment? “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your might, with all your strength.”
  • Jesus did not die for our sins: The Bible itself states no man can bear the burdens of another. God — the Ever-Living, the All-Existing — cannot be killed. And the Bible warns that anyone hung on a tree is cursed; God would never permit one of His noble prophets to meet such an end.

“Nay — whoever submits his whole self to Allah and is a doer of good, he will get his reward with his Lord; on such shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.” — Al-Qur’an, Al-Baqarah 2:112

Yusha Evans closes his testimony not with triumphalism, but with a sincere, open-handed invitation — to anyone searching, doubting, or quietly questioning the faith they have inherited. His counsel is the counsel of a man who has walked the path himself: open your heart and your mind, approach what you believe with honest scrutiny, read what Jesus actually taught, and then sincerely ask God for guidance. The message running throughout the entire Bible, he reflects, has always been the same — God is One, He alone deserves worship, and the prophets were sent to demonstrate what it means to live in alignment with that eternal truth. Islam, far from being a foreign or unfamiliar religion, is simply the fullest and most preserved expression of that universal message. For those who seek with sincerity, as the Quran reminds us, Allah guides.
