AVATAR & HALAL MEAT | His Non-Muslim Parents said Alhamdulillah after He Accepted ISLAM

When a Latino man raised Catholic hit rock bottom — drowning in drugs, alcohol, and depression — he never imagined his search for truth would lead him to Islam, or that his non-Muslim family would embrace his decision with open arms. This powerful conversion story reveals how faith, family, and the beauty of Islamic teachings can transform even the darkest chapters of life into something extraordinary.

From Depression and Despair to Finding Islam

Hamza, a Muslim revert with Mexican roots, spent years in a state of deep depression, chasing the temporary pleasures of the dunya. Raised Catholic but living as an agnostic, he experimented with drugs, alcohol, and every escape he could find — none of it worked. When he finally acknowledged that something was deeply wrong, he began searching for truth across multiple religions including Catholicism, Hinduism, and Buddhism. It was through watching stories of converts from diverse backgrounds on The Deen Show that Islam began to resonate with him, and little by little, he started cleaning up his life, studying the Quran, and learning about Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

When I told them I was Muslim, you know what they said? They said ‘Alhamdulillah’ — in Spanish. My mother and my grandmother accepted me. God bless them, I love them to death.

Why Islam Over Every Other Religion

For Hamza, it was not one single thing that drew him to Islam — it was everything. The pure monotheism made sense. The respect Islam commands for family, modesty, and moral boundaries stood in stark contrast to the chaos he saw around him. Even the concept of halal meat struck a deep chord, inspired in part by a scene from the movie Avatar where an animal is sacrificed humanely and with gratitude — a practice he discovered Islam had been teaching for over 1,400 years.

  • Pure monotheism: “There is no God but God” — the concept of Tawheed finally made logical sense after years of confusion with the Trinity
  • Halal and ethical treatment of animals: Islam’s requirement to slaughter humanely and thank the Creator mirrors a deep respect for all living things
  • Family and modesty: Islam protects the family unit and upholds dignity through modest conduct and dress
  • All prophets honored: Accepting Jesus, Moses, and every previous prophet (peace be upon them all) made the transition from Catholicism feel natural
  • No compromise on morality: Islam does not bend to social trends — the salah, the prohibition of alcohol, drugs, and gambling keep believers grounded
  • Messengers to every nation: The Islamic teaching that God sent prophets to every people helped explain spiritual truths found across world cultures

A Message for Every Revert and Every Struggling Muslim

Just because you fall off the path, it’s okay — get back on, get back on track. Ask God for forgiveness and just keep going. Try to figure out what the Lord is trying to teach you. Islam is what we have, and this dunya is not going to last forever.

Latino Muslims: A Growing Force in America

Hamza’s story reflects a broader movement. According to the Pew Research Center, Latino representation among American Muslims rose from six percent in 2011 to eight percent by 2017, and that number continues to climb. Stories like his — of parents saying Alhamdulillah when their son accepts Islam, of families witnessing the positive transformation faith brings — are becoming more common across the United States, proving that Islam transcends every cultural and ethnic boundary to speak directly to the human heart.
