Your Entire Kingdom for a Glass of Water
There is a famous story of a king who was so thirsty after hunting that a scholar asked him: how much of your kingdom would you give for this glass of water? The king said half. After drinking, the scholar asked: how much would you give for the ability to relieve yourself? The king said the other half. The lesson is devastating in its simplicity — your entire kingdom, all your wealth and power, is worth nothing more than a glass of water and the ability to use the bathroom. Yet we spend our entire lives chasing things even less significant than that.
“The worldly life distracts you until you reach the graves. Then you will come to know. Then definitely you will come to know.” (Quran 102:1-4) — A warning from the Creator that most people will only wake up when it is too late.
Death: The Reality We Cannot Escape
We avoid the word “death” — we say someone “passed away” or “left us.” But death is the one certainty in life. By every spiritual tradition — Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam — what you do in this life determines what happens after you die. The only ones who disagree are the atheists, who claim this incredibly complex universe is a random accident. But no rational person would believe a simple mobile phone assembled itself by random chance — how then can anyone believe the entire cosmos did?
“If I told you this water bottle randomly appeared, you would call me crazy. And this is a simple thing. How about this universe? How about us — our bodies? Are we simple?” — The absurdity of denying a Creator becomes clear with basic logic.
What Have You Prepared?
- You prepare for a holiday by getting a visa, currency, and vaccinations — what have you prepared for the journey after death?
- On the Day of Judgment, you will stand before your Creator and be asked about every atom’s weight of good and evil you did
- The Western lifestyle of consumerism, drugs, and materialism is destroying souls — 17% of the world’s population consumes 70% of its resources
- Death is not something to fear if you have lived for Allah — it is the doorway to the eternal life you were created for
Stop being distracted by a world that was never meant to last. Think deeply about where you came from, where you are going, and what you will say when you stand before your Creator. The time to prepare is now — not when the dirt is being poured into your grave. Turn to Allah today, and make every remaining moment of your life count.
