One of the most beautiful verses in the entire Quran reveals something extraordinary about the relationship between Allah and His servants. When the companions asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) about Allah, the response that came was not through the Prophet at all — Allah answered directly: “I am near.” No intermediary needed. No priest, no saint, no idol. Just you and your Creator in direct, intimate conversation.
The Secret Hidden in One Ayah
Allah says: “When My servant asks you about Me — indeed, I am near. I respond to the call of the caller when he calls upon Me” (Quran 2:186). Every word in this verse carries profound meaning. Allah uses “when” instead of “if” — as though He is eagerly anticipating His servant’s inquiry. He says “Me” instead of “Allah” — indicating an unusual level of closeness. And most remarkably, He does not tell the Prophet to relay the answer; He speaks directly to the servant Himself.
“They came and asked the Prophet, but Allah said: I respond to them Myself. I will talk to them Myself. You do not even have to wait for the Prophet to give you the response — I will give you the response directly.”
Du’a: The Heart of Worship
- The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Du’a is the essence of worship” — it is the brain, the heart, and the core of our relationship with Allah
- Allah did not say “I respond to the call of the believer” or “the righteous” — He said “the caller,” meaning anyone who sincerely calls upon Him
- It is perfectly fine to make du’a in any language you know — the spirit of du’a is genuine conversation with your Creator
- The Quran is Allah’s side of the conversation; du’a is ours — together, they form a complete dialogue with our Lord
“Allah says: Just believe. Just trust. Believe in Me. People who truly learn how to make du’a — that is enough for them to live a straight life, because their awareness of Allah makes it very difficult to live a crooked one.”
