Islam is a complete religion in which Allah has included everything necessary for our happiness, either in the Quran or in the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). For young Muslims navigating life in the modern world, success comes down to developing two essential strengths.
The Two Strengths Every Muslim Needs
The first is the strength of knowledge: knowing what Allah requires of you. The second, equally important, is the courage to act upon what you know. Many people possess knowledge but lack the willpower to implement it in their daily lives.
“The basic principle of Islam is that no one is worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the last messenger. First remember the fact of Allah’s presence. There is none nobler than Him, so that we remain faithful to Allah.”
Building a Routine of Faith
Practical advice for young Muslims to strengthen their faith includes:
- Pray the five daily prayers on time without compromise, as this is non-negotiable
- Spend time in the mosque with people who remind you of Allah
- Choose your friends wisely, surrounding yourself with those who strengthen your faith
- Keep busy with good deeds, especially during free time on holidays and weekends when temptation is strongest
“The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave the example of the perfume seller and the blacksmith. When you are with the perfume seller, you either receive perfume or at least enjoy a good fragrance. But with the blacksmith, either your hands get burnt or your clothes smell of smoke.”
The company you keep determines the direction of your life. Seek out those who bring you closer to Allah, spend your time in places where His name is remembered, and build a daily routine that leaves no room for heedlessness. This is the formula for success in both this life and the next.
