Four remarkable men from vastly different backgrounds — a Chinese Buddhist-turned-Christian from Malaysia, speakers from Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, and a half-Afghan half-American — sit together to share their unique journeys to Islam. From Buddhist temples to Christian missionary schools, from atheism to finally reading the Quran, each story demonstrates that Allah guides whomever He wills, regardless of culture, ethnicity, or upbringing.
From Buddhism and Christianity to Islam
Sheikh Hussein Yee spent his youth moving from Taoism to Buddhism to Christianity, searching for spiritual truth. In the Buddhist temple, he learned humility and self-discipline, but found that its extreme restrictions went against the natural disposition (fitrah) that Allah places in every human being. Christianity offered the opposite extreme — believe in Jesus and everything is forgiven, with almost no boundaries. It was only when he enrolled in a Christian missionary school and began studying comparative religion to convert Muslims that he encountered the very arguments that would ultimately lead him to Islam himself.
“When I was training to be a Christian missionary, the more I studied about Islam to refute it, the more I found that the answers I had been searching for my entire life were right there in the Quran. Allah guides whom He wills.” — Sheikh Hussein Yee
How the Quran Changed Everything
- Dr. Bilal Philips, born to an Afghan father and American mother, traveled the world at 22. Muslims everywhere invited him to Islam, and reading the Quran alongside the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) cemented his faith
- Maurice Bucaille’s book comparing the Quran with modern science was a decisive factor — showing that the Quran contains no scientific contradictions, unlike other scriptures
- Each speaker confirmed that Islam is not an Arab religion but a universal message; the companions of the Prophet came from Persia, Abyssinia, Rome, and every corner of the known world
- The common thread in every conversion story is sincerity — when a person genuinely seeks the truth, Allah opens the path to Islam for them
“I bought myself a translation of the Quran and started to read. Then I met a Muslim who had sacrificed so much for the sake of dawah — his hospitality and sincerity impressed me deeply. By continuing to read the Quran and learning about the Prophet and his companions, my faith was cemented.” — Dr. Bilal Philips
These life experiences prove that no matter where you come from or what you have believed in the past, the truth of Islam is accessible to every sincere seeker. Whether you are exploring Buddhism, Christianity, atheism, or any other path, we invite you to pick up the Quran, learn about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and let the evidence speak for itself.
