Why Aren’t You Praying? (radio)

Many Muslims today have abandoned the very act of worship that distinguishes the believer from the disbeliever: the five daily prayers. This Deen Show radio episode delivers a wake-up call about the Salah, explaining its purpose, its rewards, and the serious consequences of neglecting it, while dismantling every common excuse people use to justify skipping their prayers.

Prayer Is the Key to Paradise

The testimony of faith is the key that opens the door to Islam, and the prayer is what keeps that door open. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said the first thing a person will be asked about on the Day of Judgment is the prayer. If it is found to be sound, the person will be safe and successful. If it is defective, the person will be unfortunate and a loser. Even during battle, Allah did not exempt the believers from praying.

“If they knew the merits of the Isha and Fajr prayers, they would come to them in the mosque even if they had to crawl.”

What Prayer Does for You

  • Shields you from shameful and unjust deeds, as stated in the Quran
  • Washes away sins the way bathing in a river five times daily removes all dirt from the body
  • Provides spiritual nourishment and inner peace that no amount of money can buy
  • Cultivates humility by placing your highest point, your head and intellect, on the ground before your Creator
  • Unites Muslims in congregation regardless of race, wealth, or social status

What Happens When You Abandon Prayer

The Quran records the people of Hellfire being asked what led them there. Their answer: “We were not of those who used to pray.” The companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not consider the abandonment of any act to be disbelief except the prayer. Abandoning Salah means refusing an invitation from the Creator who gave you 24 hours in a day and only asks for roughly 30 minutes in return.

“Whoever turns away from My remembrance, indeed for him is a life of hardship, and We will raise him up on the Day of Resurrection blind.” (Quran 20:124)

No More Excuses

  • No time? You have not made prayer a priority. Allah blesses the time of those who pray
  • My heart is clean? The Prophet had the purest heart of all mankind and still prayed constantly
  • I sin too much? Prayer is the very medicine that will help you stop sinning
  • My family prevents me? There is no obedience to anyone in disobedience to Allah
