PBD PODCAST Guest Christian Pastor Cliffe Knechtle’s ATTEMPT to Disprove the Quran BACKFIRES

A Christian pastor named Cliffe Knechtle appeared on the PBD podcast claiming that the Quran’s compilation under Caliph Uthman involved destroying variant versions, implying the Quran is unreliable. But when pressed for evidence, he admitted on camera: “I don’t have the footnote on that one.” This episode brings on a Quran expert who has memorized the entire Quran and dedicated his life to its study to dismantle these claims with facts that the pastor could not provide.

The Quran vs. The Anonymous Gospels

The pastor’s own admission undermines his argument. Meanwhile, the Bible’s authorship problem remains devastating: the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are named after people who did not write them. As one scholar put it, “We don’t know who wrote these books and there’s no point calling them Sam, Fred, Jerry, and Harry.” The Quran, by contrast, has been preserved through mass memorization since its revelation. Even if every physical copy were destroyed, millions of memorizers worldwide could reproduce it cover to cover, page for page.

“People call the Gospel books Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John because we don’t know who wrote them. The Quran is a perfect book. Even if you burn every Quran on earth, we will bring it back cover to cover, page for page.”

What Caliph Uthman Actually Did

Caliph Uthman did not destroy “different versions” of the Quran. He standardized the written script to match the oral transmission that had been perfectly preserved since the Prophet’s time. The Quran was primarily an oral tradition, memorized in its entirety by thousands of companions. Uthman’s project ensured that written copies matched the established oral text, eliminating regional dialect variations in script while the actual recitation remained unchanged. This is the opposite of destroying variants; it is quality control of the highest order.

“I don’t have the footnote on that one. That’s a good question, Patrick.” — Pastor Cliffe Knechtle, when asked to provide evidence for his claims about the Quran
