She noted that the overwhelming majority of people in the U.S. prison system identify as Christian, yet no one blames Christianity — the same standard of fairness should apply to Islam.
The Moment God Sent Her a Clear Message
“I told God: Look, You need to make this happen. I put it in His hands. And slowly, phrases started coming into my mind — ‘There is no one worthy of worship except Allah,’ ‘The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.’ I realized after 30 years, God had sent me the message. It was time.”
Taking the Shahada and Beginning a New Life
With absolute conviction, Valentina declared the shahada — the testimony of faith that marks a person’s entry into Islam. She bore witness that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His messenger, and that Jesus, the son of Mary, is a beloved messenger of God. In that single, powerful moment, every sin from her past was wiped clean. Islam teaches that a new Muslim is like a newborn child, given a completely fresh start by the mercy of Allah.
