U.S. MUSLIM RELIGIOUS COUNCIL ISSUES FATWA AGAINST TERRORISM

The Fiqh Council of North America wishes to reaffirm Islam’s absolute condemnation of terrorism and religious extremism.
Islam strictly condemns religious extremism and the use of violence against innocent lives.

There is no justification in Islam for extremism or terrorism. Targeting civilians’ life and property through suicide bombings or any other method of attack is haram – or forbidden – and those who commit these barbaric acts are criminals, not “martyrs.”

The Qur’an, Islam’s revealed text, states: “Whoever kills a person [unjustly]…it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind.”

(Qur’an, 5:32)

Prophet Muhammad said there is no excuse for committing unjust acts: “Do not be people without minds of your own, saying that if others treat you well you will treat them well, and that if they do wrong you will do wrong to them. Instead, accustom yourselves to do good if people do good and not to do wrong (even) if they do evil.” (Al-Tirmidhi)

God mandates moderation in faith and in all aspects of life when He states in the Qur’an: “We made you to be a community of the middle way, so that (with the example of your lives) you might bear witness to the truth before all mankind.” (Qur’an, 2:143)

In another verse, God explains our duties as human beings when he says “Let there arise from among you a band of people who invite to righteousness, and enjoin good and forbid evil.” (Qur’an, 3:104)

Islam teaches us to act in a caring manner to all of God’s creation. The Prophet Muhammad, who is described in the Qur’an as “a mercy to the worlds” said: “All creation is the family of God, and the person most beloved by God (is the one) who is kind and caring toward His family.”

In the light of the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah we clearly and strongly state:

1. All acts of terrorism targeting civilians are haram (forbidden) in Islam.

2. It is haram for a Muslim to cooperate with any individual or group that is involved in any act of terrorism or violence.

3. It is the civic and religious duty of Muslims to cooperate with law enforcement authorities to protect the lives of all civilians.

We issue this fatwa following the guidance of our scripture, the Qur’an, and the teachings of our Prophet Muhammad – peace be upon him. We urge all people to resolve all conflicts in just and peaceful manners.

We pray for the defeat of extremism and terrorism. We pray for the safety and security of our ountry, the United States, and its people. We pray for the safety and security of all inhabitants of our planet. We pray that interfaith harmony and cooperation prevail both in the United States and all around the globe.

Why in Gods name do they issue a fatwa against terrorism?
Because the zionist propaganda media says that Islam is involved in terror acts?
Why do the Muslims keep losing their faces by going into defenece each time the zionist media comes with its propagand against Islam?
This breaks my heart even more than when i hear on the media that ”muslims” made a terror attack.
We should stop going into defence and start going into attack and defend ourselves.
This can not continue like this. I wish the Muslims would finaly wake up!

    Assalamu alaykum
where you people got it wrong is failing to realize the cause of all these.
we are all sitting and enjoying a good life with our families while muslim communities and nations are bombarded continuously.this could be by americans, chinese, russians, arabs etc. this is not an issue of race. How many times have we actually condemned all these ongoing atrocities. but, we still keep giving excuses in the name of ‘benefit of dawah’. we even ignorantly say the non-muslims like our islam and are won over.
I want you people to get something straight, it is either either Allah that is most Wise when He said:
“the Jews and christians will never be pleased with you until you follow their path” or you who is proud that they are pleased with your (version of) Islam.
they are simply accepting it because as Allah says in suratul qalam: “They wish that you should compromise with them, so they (too) would compromise with you”.
And remember Allah’s warning to the prophet on reclining to the disbelievers a little.
this is not to say we should not keep doing dawah. we should but without altering the message in the name of dawah and knowing priorities. (remember the qissa of sariyya Abdullah bin Jahsh- tafseer of the verse if they ask you on the sacred month, (as regards) fighting in it.)
We should keep seeking for Allah’s forgiveness for betraying the muslims in other part of the world rather than criticizing some other people who are putting some effort. Allah says:
“And what is wrong with you that you fight not in the cause of Allah, and for those weak, ill-treated and oppressed among men, women, and children, whose cry is: “Our Lord! Rescue us from this town whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from You one who will protect, and raise for us from You one who will help.”Those who believe, fight in the cause of Allah, and those who disbelieve, fight in the cause of the Taghut. So fight against the friends of Shaytan; ever feeble indeed is the plot of Shaytan” Q4:75-76
